"TAKE A BOOK...SHARE A BOOK"

Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.

There are more than 75,000 Little Free Libraries in all 50 states and 90 countries. Through these Little Libraries, tens of millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

Little Free Library book-sharing boxes can improve book access and thus help improve literacy where books are scarce.

They can mitigate slippage of reading skills during summer breaks and make it possible for kids and parents to share books at times that are convenient.

In addition, Little Free Library book-sharing boxes project a message of welcome and good will.

Their books attract patrons from all over the community and provide a continuing opportunity for people to interact with one another and improve neighborhood communication.

One of the most successful ways to improve the reading achievement of children is to increase their access to books, especially at home. But 61% of low-income families do not have any age-appropriate books for their kids at home. Little Free Libraries play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!) in areas where books are scarce.

Little Free Library staff is dedicated to increasing book access and forging community connections.

Little Free Library helps people around the world start and maintain Little Free Library book exchanges.

Little Free Library provides support to their volunteer stewards by giving free Library building instructions, online resources and ongoing support from Little Free Library staff, access to free or discounted books through their partners, and an online store that offers Library kits and pre-built Library models.

They also maintain a world map of registered Little Free Libraries to help people find and share books wherever they are, and they donate Little Free Libraries to communities where books are scarce through their Impact Library Program. Learn more HERE.

Learn how to start your own Little Free Library. This non-profit organization has a helpful step-by-step diagram that walks you through the process from start to finish.

If you are building your own Library, then your main cost is materials.

That could range from $5 to $150. There is also one-time payment of about $40 to register each Library that you build.

When you register, you get a charter sign engraved with a unique charter number. Your unique charter number gives you the option to add your Library to the world map. You also get access to discounted books and a private Facebook support group. Think about installation costs, too, like a wooden post or hardware. Those items usually cost around $30. Check out Little Free Library recommended installation instructions.

Nonprofit organization Little Free Library is helping to ensure we keep our innate love of books alive by “inspiring a love of reading, building community, and sparking creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.” These little libraries are popping up everywhere, with over 75,000 libraries provided in 90 countries so far!
