FarmVille's all new spooky ode to Halloween in the USA, the Shadow Creek farm is almost upon us. With it will come a new main feature, ROCK, PAPER SHIVERS. The Rock, Paper Shivers feature, like other recent farms main features will be limited edition and times. It will be available from the Early Access date of October 16, 2017 for Early Access players (We do not yet know if General (free) Access players will be able to access the feature prior to General Access, if it is accessible it will be no more than the first tier), through December 3rd, 2017. Rock, Paper, Shivers will be both familiar and different as it is a hybrid of a HAND OF DESTINY type social game and several sets of POT OF GOLD type tasks This post will provide you with an OVERVIEW of the feature, and there will be separate posts for each Tier.

For more on the individual tiers of Rock Paper Shivers, please visit the Dirt Farmer's Rock, Paper Shivers Complete Guide.
DAY ONE TESTING OF THIS FEATURE, BY YOUR DIRT FARMER TEAM, INDICATES THAT YOU CAN ONLY CLICK ON TWO TRICKY TREAT POSTS PER DAY AND GET UP TO TWO FROM EACH OF YOUR OWN POSTS. THIS WILL MAKE THE FEATURE MATHEMATICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLETE WITHOUT FARM CASH. THAT WILL AVERAGE OUT TO 8- MAX 16 PER DAY (16 IF YOU POST EVERY 6 HOURS AND EVERY CLICK IS GOOD.) WITH JUST A 50% WIN RATE (WINNING ONE OF EVERY TWO GAMES) YOU WOULD NEED 240 TRICKY TREATS PER TIER - OR 15 - 30 DAYS TO REACH THE SECOND TIER. THE FEATURE EXPIRES IN 49 DAYS. WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO THE FARMVILLE STUDIO ON THIS ISSUE AND WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THEY REPLY.
Now, to get an idea of how the feature works, lets have a look at FarmVille's guide to Rock, Paper, Shivers and expand on it a little bit....
First of all, if you opt to purchase Early Access to Shadow Creek you will get 40 Tricky Treats free with purchase. General (free) Access players will have NO initial quantity granted to them and will arrive to a balance of zero.
When you arrive on Shadow Creek, you will be invited to play Rock, Paper Shivers.
You can access the feature through Ms Mulberry standing off farm on the side of your farm or the icon on the right side of the farm.
Once you are in, it is time to find out how to play....
There is a handy "how to play" tutorial on the right of the feature interface to walk you through it.
Ms Mulberry welcomes you...
She then lets you know that you will be matched to a random opponent. One big difference between Rock Paper Shivers and Hand of Destiny is that in this case you are NOT a team, one will win and one will lose. Choose your attack wisely.
As with Hand of Destiny, we may be waiting a bit...
If you are not familiar with the Rock, Paper, Scissors schoolyard game, Ms Mulberry will next show you how it works.
Not only must you choose wisely to win, you must also choose quickly. You have only 7 seconds to choose an attack and will not be able to change your choice for the remainder of that game.
Now that we know what to do it's time to get started. Choose a reward to play for and you will be taken to the Rock, Paper, Shivers Arena, to meet that random opponent.
Winning a game will be best of 3 round - eg winning 2 of them. If you both choose the same attack and tie, there will then be a tie breaker round
The tie breaker round is winner take all.....
Regardless of whether the game is a best of 3 or ends with a tie breaker round, there will always be one winner and one loser.
The Rock, Paper, Shivers game also contains this rather curious promotion of the community neighbors feature - if you're competing against someone, how exactly would they "help you win rewards"?
If your neighbor count is full at 300, and you click yes on this pop-up it appears that you will be invited to clear out your ghost neighbors. Whether or not the game will assist with that - and whether or not it will work if they do - remains to be seen.
Like Hand of Destiny, if you lose connection with your opponent during a game (or tiebreaker) , you will be kicked into a solo round to play against Miss Mulberry.
There are four reward tiers, within each you will need to win 30 games and then there will be 10 challenging tasks to complete to unlock the next tier. You will be able to see and interact with the tasks on the upcoming tier only. You get one point on the games won counter of your chosen reward each time you win a game. You do not get points, nor do you get your tricky treats back if you lose.
Once you have won all the rewards in a tier, you must complete the 10 tasks (note yellow arrow in image below to see the rest) in the next tier before you can begin playing Rock Paper Shivers in that tier.
Once all tasks are complete, you will be able to work toward winning 30 games for the next tier.
Once you have the 30 wins in all 4 tiers and all 3 sets of 10 tasks, then you will be granted the bonus reward, the HAUNTED CIRCUS STADIUM.
Once you win the Haunted Curcus Stadium, you can harvest it once every 24 hours for a coupon to redeem an item in the market. Please note this is not the regular market but a special shivers market. You will only be able to harvest this building until December 3rd, 2017.
When you receive a coupon, to redeem it, simply click on it in your gift box and the Shivers Market will pop up and look something like this.
The coupons are randomly given in 4 categories, animal, tree, building and decoration and each coupon is only valid to redeem ONE item in that category.
A look at the task interface to unlock each tier. Please note that the tasks can only be completed on Shadow Creek
To play each game you will need TRICKY TREATS. It costs FOUR TRICKY TREATS to play one game.
You will get FOUR Tricky Treats from the daily collect.
However if we SPEND FARM CASH to BUY any of the following LAND TILES, then you will get ONE ADDITIONAL TRICKY TREAT with every collect for each tile that you purchase - up to a total of 10 per day. This time one of the unlockable tiles does unlock one week before the feature ends - but still not much time to get the benefit for free.
|Monster Marsh||99 FC / Unlock (11/27)|
|Sleepy Swamp||99 FC / Unlock (12/04)|
|Phantasm Fields||119 FC|
|Scarecrow's Roost||109 FC|
|Werewolf Thicket||119 FC|
|Garden of Horrors||149 FC|
|Underworld Gate||129 FC|
|Creepy Vale||149 FC|
You can also ask your friends for up to 4 tricky treats every 6 hours
(Please note these have a collection cap on them, so if someone who has hit their limit clicks your post, in most cases you will not get one, they will not get one but it will still deduct one from the number of available clicks to your post, so you may often get less than 4)
Or spend Farm Cash to buy them from the market
