Today Adobe, the makers of flash the computer program on which FarmVille runs, announced that they will be ending support and distribution of flash at the end of 2020. What does that mean for our beloved game? Read below for more information and please do share....
First of all there is no reason to panic now. The announcement specifically states that adobe will be ending support and distribution of flash at the end of 2020. That means there is the rest of 2017, all of 2018, all of 2019 and all of 2020 before flash will no longer get updated. That's three and a half years.
Secondly Facebook has announced that they are partnering with computer makers Apple and Microsoft, as well as browser makers Google and Mozilla to develop a way to assist the developers of Web games (like FarmVille) to more easily convert to updated web standards such as Webgl or Html5. This is completely possible to do and if the FarmVille Studio does convert to one of these formats, the game will remain past the death of flash.
The question is will FarmVille convert? The Dirt Farmer will always give you honest information and currently we do not know. We have reached out to the FarmVille Studio, several hours ago requesting a statement and we shall update this post as soon as they reply. It is very possible that the game will continue well beyond 2020. It is possible for any flash game to be converted to WebGL or HTML5.
What we now await is word of their intentions, to update or not.
That's all for now, stay tuned to the Dirt Farmer for all the latest FarmVille news and information,.
