The Dirt Farmer Foundation’s CAUSE it’s SEPTEMBER: Charity:Water

The Dirt Farmer Foundation is our way of focusing the social media power of the Dirt Farmer’s community to help worthwhile charities.

Our CAUSE it’s SEPTEMBER or Cause of the Month is:

***CHARITY:WATER***

"Bring Clean and Safe Drinking Water
to every Person on the Planet"

Founded in 2006, Charity:Water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations

In just ten years, Charity:Water has funded more than 22,000 sustainable, community-owned water projects in 24 developing countries around the globe.

Charity:Water has projects in Africa, Asia, Central and South America

When complete, these projects based on simple solutions will provide clean, safe drinking water for more than 7 million people.

Most of us have never really been thirsty.

We’ve never had to leave our houses and walk five miles to fetch water.

We simply turn on the tap, and water comes out. Clean.

Yet there are 663 million people on the planet who don’t have clean water

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

That’s a huge number. In fact, it’s twice the number of people who live in the United States. 1 in 10 people in our world doesn’t have access to the most basic of human needs. Something we can’t imagine going 12 hours without.

We invite you to put yourself in their shoes. Follow them on their daily journey. Carry 80 pounds of water in yellow fuel cans. Dig with their children in sand for water. Line up at a well and wait eight hours for a turn.

Now, make a decision to help. Charity:Water is not offering grand solutions and billion dollar schemes, but instead, simple things that work.

Things like freshwater wells, rainwater catchments and sand filters. For about $30 a person, Charity:Water knows how to help millions.

WHY WATER? Clean water means health, income and education for women and kids. Learn more HERE.

Women and Children - usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source.

Building a water project nearby can give women and children the freedom to pursue an education or earn extra income.

Food Supply - When a water project is built in a community, members can often use the new water source to grow small gardens near their homes and secure their own food supply.

Health and Sanitation - To significantly cut down disease rates in the developing world, water is just the first step

Almost everywhere Charity:Water builds a freshwater well, sanitation training is required.

The Return - Every $1 invested in improved water supply and sanitation can yield from $4 to $12 for the local economy.

Just $20 can provide clean water for one person.
