Internet MELTDOWN! FARMVILLE And Many Other Sites Down Due To Amazon Web Service OUTAGE

Are you getting a WHITE PAGE  in FARMVILLE? You are not alone, both in terms of FarmVille players and users of numerous websites and games. Amazon Web Services otherwise known as the Amazon Cloud is currently  experiencing high error rates. While that does not effect the Amazon shopping site, it is wreaking havoc on the internet as a whole where many well known sites, including FarmVille use the Amazon Cloud for hosting. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THE FULL POST THERE IS VALUABLE INFORMATION IN EACH SECTION! Read below for more details and please do share....

Amazon is the biggest provider of cloud (which essentially means online storage) and the error rates are currently impacting many sites across the web from FarmVille to Netflix and more(, even downdetector is down) according to Bloomberg.

YOUR DIRT FARMER TEAM HAS RECEIVED CONFIRMATION FROM ANIL AT THE FARMVILLE STUDIO THAT THE AMAZON OUTAGE IS THE SOURCE OF THE WHITE PAGES AND OTHER ISSUES THAT WE ARE HAVING. HE HAS ASKED US TO TELL YOU THAT THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE AS HIGH ERROR RATES ON THEIR REQUESTS TO THEIR CLOUD SERVICE. IT IS NOT A ZYNGA SERVER ISSUE. WHILE FARMVILLE NO LONGER HOSTS ACCOUNTS ON THE AMAZON CLOUD, THOSE ARE HOSTED ON ZYNGA'S PROPRIETARY SERVERS, THEY DO HOST IN GAME IMAGES THERE, WHICH IS WHY AMAZON S3 STORAGE ISSUES IS MAKING THE GAME UNPLAYABLE.

What do we do now? Given the nature of the current issue, it is out of the FarmVille Studio's  control, All we can do is await resolution from Amazon. YOU CAN FOLLOW THE PROGRESS OF THE BUGS AND THEIR RESOLUTION DIRECTLY FROM AMAZON BY CLICKING HERE FOR THEIR PLATFORM STATUS SITE OR HERE FOR THEIR TWITTER ACCOUNT.

Basically the use of the first link is that until all of the lines on it say "service working normally" or something of that nature instead of "high error rate" even if the game comes up, it can still go back down - that is how you can use it to see if things are now stable. Thanks to Farmer Tamara for pointing out the need for clarification.

That's all for now, stay tuned to the Dirt Farmer for all of the latest FarmVille news and information.
