Farmville Grooming Barn Complete Guide

Farmville has just released an all new spin on animal breeding pens the GROOMING BARN. Your Dirt Farmer team has a complete guide for you to help you understand the feature and determine whether or not you would like to play it. Make sure to READ THE FULL POST as there is a lot of information surrounding this feature. If you skim or skip around, you are sure to miss something that will make it more difficult.Check out the details below and please do share with friends if you find our post helpful.

IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE THAT YOUR GIFT BOX IS BELOW THE POSTED LIMITS PRIOR TO INTERACTING WITH THIS FEATURE! (10,000 TOTAL ITEMS, 500 UNIQUE ITEMS WHICH IS ROUGHLY 83 PAGES) IF YOUR GIFT BOX IS ABOVE EITHER LIMIT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COLLECT MANE BRUSHES FROM THE FEED AND ANY THAT YOU CRAFT WILL DISAPPEAR.

READ BEFORE BEGINNING TO DECIDE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS FEATURE

This feature can be completed INDEPENDENTLY if you choose to do so. The Grooming Barn is somewhat similar to Dream Unicorns and Social Sheep in that you purchase babies and raise them to adults. It is also dissimilar in that, at a time when players are clamoring for increased social interaction within the game, there is no partner and no interaction in this feature other than clicking links.

There is of course a crafting aspect, which includes bushels from a chain-linked Herb Garden crop, Rosemary, which will require mastery of  2 other crops to unlock the seeds. When you first unlock the seeds, you will only be able to obtain a certain number daily, depending on the level your Herb Garden is built to, until you master it completely at which time it will be unlocked in the market. As of the enhance on second July, the Rosemary crop is no longer locked to the Herb Garden and you can plant it regardless of whether you have mastered it or its prior pre-requisites.

In a rather disheartening twist, this feature is LOCKED TO THE HOME FARM. This unfortunate development will prevent many players who have loading issues and too many items already on the original farm, from even beginning to interact with the feature if they wanted to.

Animals from this feature, including foals are not shareable in any way and will not go into any other breeding pen. The adults will go into the Grooming Barn itself. You cannot breed them in the stables, paddocks or playpens. The foals must be left out on the farm, as they are not storable anywhere including in the cellar.

First, a look at the building itself, the Grooming Barn pen:

The pen  is used to purchase colts, add mane brushes to raise them and store the adults when you are done. The pen has a capacity of 500 animals, but there are only 12 different adults that you can raise. The adults are storable in the pen. They do not go into stables or paddocks. The foals do not go into the pen or playpen, they must be left out on the farm.

When you harvest the feature you get BABY BOTTLES or ANIMAL FEED, you do not get anything the feature uses.

A look at the loading screen we'll get when the feature goes live on our farms

A look inside the Grooming Barn

You can only have one of each type of colt in process at a time. Once you place one, the option to get it turns into the grow option until it is complete.

A look at the tutorial images we have found that belong to this feature

As you can see from the tutorial images,  we'll be needing a new part to beautify our yearlings

Mane Brush

The MANE BRUSH can be obtained in several ways.

When a friend completes the raising of a yearling, they will share a Mane Brush. You are limited to being able to collect one Mane Brush via this method every 24 hours.  The one per day limit was removed from this collection method in the enhance on 2nd July. You should now be able to collect either at will.

You can POST for Mane Brushes every 6 hours. Each post appears to give 5 clicks, from testing amongst the DF team. You get one each time you help a friend with one of these posts. This method does not appear to be limited to one a day.

When you claim a Mane Brush it will be visible in your Gift Box

You cannot use it from your gift box however

The Mane Brushes will automatically apply to any colts you currently have growing.

Note that the full amount you have shows on each one. There are 5 here not 15. If you click “Grow” on a colt as soon as you see the number 40, the other two will revert to Zero. Make sure you click the one you want most first.

You can craft  Mane Brushes in the Craft Shop. This recipe is instantly ready, similar to the Eagle Sam and Hungry Santa features. The down side is that it requires Rosemary from the Herb Garden, which you must first build the Herb Garden and master Thai Basil and Thyme to unlock. Once you unlock Rosemary, you will be able to harvest between 100-900 Rosemary Seeds per day from your Herb Garden, depending on what level your Herb Garden is built to,  until you master it (the pre-requisite crops work the same way). Once you master Rosemary, it is unlocked in the market to plant on all farms as a normal crop.

To craft Mane Brushes you will need 2 Aloe Vera Bushels, 2 Rosemary Bushels and 2 Bermuda Grass Hay Bushels. Bermuda Grass Hay is a new crop associated with this feature and can be found in the market.

Finally a look at the animals associated with this feature. The colts are paired with the adults they LIKELY grow into. The coding is not clear so we cannot be certain at this time which go into which, we can only offer a best guess. Let us know if you get something different

Each Yearling takes 40 Mane Brushes to grow to an adult, there is no variation this time

REMEMBER THE COLTS YOU GET WITHIN THE FEATURE CAN ONLY BE LEFT OUT ON YOUR FARM, THEY CANNOT BE STORED IN THE CELLAR OR GO INTO ANY BUILDING. THE ADULTS CAN BE STORED ONLY IN THE GROOMING BARN. NONE OF THESE ANIMALS GO INTO THE STABLE, PADDOCK OR PLAYPEN AND FOALS CANNOT BE SHARED.

  1. No point for me if I cannot share, not to mention I am one of those people who already have way too much stuff on my home farm. This will be a pass for me.

  2. I've picked up over 100 mane brushes and none of them show up in my gift box??? What gives??? Even the one (1) they allow you from the horses made that doesn't show up or do the ones from the few other posts that people put out there!!! Probably won't be doing this one either!!!

  4. My gift box is over the limit, but I just tested and made two brushes and I DO have 3 in my box ( one from the feed earlier). Perhaps they removed this limiting feature? Could DF confirm?
