US AUTISM AND ASPERGER ASSOCIATION (USAAA)
Provide the Opportunity for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to achieve their fullest potential
Every day, our brains interpret (understand) the things we see, smell, hear, taste, touch, and experience. But when someone's brain has trouble interpreting these things, it can make it hard to talk, listen, understand, play, and learn. Individuals with ASD are men and woman, who communicate vocally and non-vocally, who are scientists and who are artists, who would like to live in urban city centers and who would rather live on a working farm. The autism diagnosis does not define one type of person at one age, but is expressed in a spectrum of gifts and desires across a lifetime. 1 in 68 U.S. children has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a 30% increase from 1 in 88 two years ago, according to the latest report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Children with autism continue to be overwhelmingly male, 1 in 42 boys has autism. Here is a truth about children with autism: they grow up to become adults with autism. No one can say for sure what adulthood will hold for them. To start, where will everyone live and work?
“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid” -Albert Einstein.
